The leaves are falling, and as sports seasons come to a close, we want to shine a spotlight on our devoted student-athletes. These seniors are paving their way to opportunities outside of the Hill, and we commend their dedication and enthusiasm to all of the Kents Hill teams.
Senior year is filled with college applications, split seasons, high school ‘lasts,’ and balancing it all. However, it’s unusual for people to put emphasis on the hard work shown throughout sports seasons. The performances all season have been spectacular and even led to some Huskie highlights and nominations of a few athletes who showed exemplary achievements.
XC
Starting off, we had some nominees for Cross Country! Jonah and Elliott have both been working hard this season and have been running extremely well. Jonah Jenkins has been on the cross-country team for four years now and continues to show his hard work in meets and practice. Elliott Marks – a new Husky this year– has been having a great season and continues to improve while uplifting his teammates along the way. As the Cross Country season comes towards a close, we look forward to seeing what Elliott and Jonah will continue to do!
Varsity Golf
Varsity Golf has had a great season so far, placing third in Class C at their tournament over fall family weekend. From Golf, we are recognizing two players, Ben C. and Amelie! Both of these golfers have been working hard and showcasing their amazing golf skills throughout the season.
Shoutout to Amelie, who placed first over Fall Family weekend and is now the Maine State Champion and then during NewEnglands Amelie placed 9th out of 53 girls! We are so proud of both Ben and Amelie’s accomplishments!
Boys JV Soccer
There are some nominees for Boys JV Soccer, and boy, do they have some hard-working athletes! Teddy “T-Rex” Alfond is not only a Co-Captain but a starting goalkeeper. He has provided leadership and guidance to the group and stopped an abundance of shots on the net – keeping the team extremely competitive. Despite the outcome of the games, Teddy always maintains a positive and inspirational attitude. Teddy is the definition of a team player.
Next up is Dan “The Pawlinator” Pawlin. He is determined on both sides of the field and is arguably the most all-around skilled player. He is respected by coaches, admired by teammates, and feared by the other teams. Hodgin says, “You can’t stop him. You can only hope to contain him.” Keep up the good work!
Girls Varsity Soccer
Girls Varsity Soccer has had some great games, especially winning the chair game for the third year in a row! Two seniors who not only stood out this game but have been a constant throughout the season are Virginia Howell and Ema Ospala! They are not only tremendous athletes but are almost always smiling and practicing to get better. They treat everyone on the field with respect and are dependable girls who always put their best foot forward when games get tough. Congrats!!
Fall season sports have been such a success, and featuring these athletes comes as no surprise. Thank you to these seniors for their time at Kents Hill!
