As Jayden Kim ’25 and Ty Rykhus ’25 stared at each other on November 20th at around 3:45 pm, they simply said to each other, “What is Brewster doing here?”
As the confusion of students, players, and even coaches ensued, it seemed that the Kents Hill boys had a game. After a 6:15 am practice the same day, these almost 12 hours seemed like a hurricane as players rushed to lockers to lace up sneakers and get loose and stretched out or taped by the athletic trainer.
All that was on the Huskies’ mind was winning the basketball game, and that’s surely what they did, convincingly as well. After only having 8 players and up 18 at halftime (44-22), Brian Smith said the words, “They don’t score 15 points this half,” and that’s exactly what happened behind a 25-0 run to start the 2nd half. The Huskies surged to 60 in the 2nd half, outscoring the Bobcats by 47 points en route to a convincing 103-34 victory.
The Huskies will never forget the wildest 12 hours.
